My Design Philosophy

Portfolio

As a spatial designer, I believe that a great design starts with a story with ups and downs like a theatre play. From an early age on I had a strong connection with handcraft and heritage. I loved visiting museums and historical buildings, I still do.

I have a strong connection with historical buildings and historical objects. It fascinates me how things were made but most of all their story.

I believe that the key to every design lies in the research. In most of my projects, I find inspiration from historical research. But also from my environment, a simple leaf on a tree can lead to a whole design.

The challenge as a designer is to transform the story into an inspiring and engaging design. As a designer, I like to experiment with form, function, and materials. In my work, I often go in search of harmony. And I love to operate detailed and precise.

I’m always looking out for a new challenge.

Malissa Geersing

I started at the Art Academy with the thought that one day I would become a creative architect. But time passed by and my passion for heritage grew stronger. Art Academy Minerva offered me the opportunity to shape my course to suit my interests and develop new skills for the Scenography sector. I developed my skills through learning about how things are made and built. And experiment with different materials and techniques.

During my design course, I had the great opportunity to gain experience in the field at PRS architects / GuM in London. They allowed me to work on great projects like The Crime Museum Uncovered, Museum of Rural Life, and The Revealing of the Charterhouse. After my internship, I graduated from the Art Academy Minerva with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design/Architecture and started my first job at Mather & Co.
